National Hockey League
English: NationalHockeyLeague, NHL, French: LigueNationaledeHockey, LNH, is a North American ice hockey team composed by a professional sports league. NHL is the world’s highest level of professional hockey game, as one of four major North American professional sports. Teams divided into eastern and western regions, each region was divided into three partitions.
Union in 1917 in Montreal, Quebec, was established inception five teams, after a series of extensions, now a total of 30 teams, 23 in the United States, seven in Canada. Because the players strike in the entire 2004-2005 season was canceled after a successful alliance with the 2005-2006 regular season and the 2006 Stanley Cup playoffs.
Traditionally, since the league’s Canadian descent, most of the players are Canadian. In 1972, the World Hockey Association (World Hockey Association) was established, although it has never threatened the status of the Stanley Cup, but its identity has not yet been potential competitors NHL ignored. In view of this, NHL decided to fully implement its expansion plans in order to respond, the new team of the New York Islanders in the same year, the Atlanta Flames, after two years of investigation and new Kansas home team and the Washington Capitals. In the early 1990s, NHL added a further five teams. San Jose Sharks joined in 1991; a post season, the Ottawa Senators and Tampa Bay Lightning team with the league. In 1993, Anaheim Duck Ham team and the Florida Panthers also join the alliance. Close to 2000 when, NHL has added four teams: Nashville Predators team (1998), Atlanta Thrashers (1999), Minnesota Wild team, the Columbus Blue Jackets team (both in 2000), a total of 30 teams.
